Warm in the winter

At this time of year nothing beats starting the day with a warming bowl of porridge, but getting that hot bowl from microwave to table has always been a juggling act of tea towels or oven mitts to avoid scorched fingers.

No longer!

I decided that my first make of the year would be just for me and as I had been looking at the bowl cosy patterns proliferating the Internet I knew just what that make would be :)

As I don't always use the same bowl for breakfast I made two bowl cosies, the bottom one is made with two layer cake squares and the smaller one is made from 8 charm squares joined together. (You can find a tutorial for the charm square cosy here)

All of the fabrics that I used for these bowl cosies have been haunting my stash for a while, and the wadding used in each was from scraps from other projects. So, not only do I no longer have scorched fingers in the morning but I have also used up some more scraps from that large fabric stash, win-win I'd say!

I have been recycling these for another project too, but you will have to wait a bit longer to find out what they have become :)

  2. Your cozies turned out really nice! Mine is getting quite worn. Maybe I'll make another :)

  3. It always such fun for me to see one of my tutorials done up in different fabrics. Thanks so much for linking to it.

Making more charm square soup bowl cozies is on my winter sewing list too.

  4. Great idea, starting the year off with a project just for you! Bonus points for busting some scraps at the same time :) I'm quite curious to see what you're planning for those tea light candle holders...

  5. I so love porridge, but haven't had any for years - too lazy. The bowl cozies are a good idea, and well done on making something for yourself.
